Flying, Falling, Catching - 2024
Details
This is a re-run of the online retreat "Flying, Falling, Catching" originally given in Spring 2023.
Flying, Falling, Catching: Practicing Trust and Finding Freedom with Henri Nouwen
During the last five years of Henri Nouwen’s life, he became friends with the Flying Rodleighs, a trapeze troupe in a travelling circus. He wrote about their act: “The ten minutes that followed somehow gave me a glimpse of a world that had eluded me so far, a world of discipline and freedom, diversity and harmony, risk and safety, individuality and community, and most of all flying and catching.”
Nouwen said that his time teaching university developed his mind and L’Arche was about the heart, while the trapeze was something quite new as he discovered “the life of the body, and the body tells a spiritual story.”
We will listen to the spiritual story of our own embodied lives, using scripture, sharing, music, and video. Through this retreat, we invite you to engage your own stories of flying, falling and catching.
